Waiting For Jade Eden

We are waiting for our daughter Jade Eden. She is somewhere in China. We started our process in January 2005. After our "paper chase" our dossier of paperwork was sent to China and we were given the log-in date "LID" of July 25, 2005.

Happy Turkey to all (and a belated Halloween)

Well, we have survived our first Halloween season. Of course we tried to put Jade in a costume that would be of her choosing (despite that fact that she does not know what Halloween is and is not yet able to talk in full sentences). As she is obsessed with all things Elmo (and has the movie "Elmo in Grouchland" memorized and acts it out for us, including the character names and the lines they speak - yes, she is only 21 months old) we figured ELMO would be appropriate and to her liking. Unfortunately, we did not take into account two things: 1) that she would be the only Elmo at her Tiny Tot holiday party and 2) that the other children would actually think she was really Elmo! When we walked in to the party there was a roar "ELMO!" and kids started chasing her around and wanting to hug her and touch her and have their picture taken with her. She did well considering she is not used to throngs of adoring fans.

Jade is out of her crib and in a toddler bed (which came with a table and stools and a toy organizer) so now all her furniture has elmo on it as well!

Lanuguage wise she is doing really well and is saying more words than we can count. She recognizes dozens of items from their pictures. When we take a walk she is constantly pointing at things and telling us what they are. She is scary smart (she obviously does not have our genes!)

The only other big event this past month has been the excitement of fancy dress up clothes for the holidays. Give her a pair of "shoe shoes" and a "purse" and she is good to go!

Hi Emma! Many, Many congratulations to you and Todd on adopting little Jade! Don't know if you remember me, but we were at Wellesley together (I took your yearbook photo). Read your story in the last Class Notes. Wish I had known you were in Guangzhou--my family and I live in Hong Kong. If you're out this way again, definitely come see us! My email address is patsheahk@yahoo.com.hk. Best wushes, Pat (Ormsbee) Shea '86
